Between bad internet connections, long drives, full days, and planning ahead, I am once again behind in my posts. I am going to start with where we are today, then go back in time with further posts of where we have been. I hope it's not too confusing.
We changed to Mountain Time today, so we gained an hour. Perhaps this will give me time to catch up? (Probably not. We are considering a program at the Badlands National Park tonight of the night sky. You can see the Milky Way from here!)
Today, we are in the Badlands of South Dakota! We are in a lovely KOA in a gulch below the cliffs of the Badlands. I was here once many years ago, and I remember it being brown and desolate. This time, however, it is green and the rivers are full, and it is 80 degrees today, low humidity. Perfect. I asked about the green hills as we checked in to the campground, and was told it has rained weekly all through the summer, which is very unusual. The photo below is just before we arrived at the Badlands. Please excuse the black spots, which are bugs on the windshield:
And here are a couple of photos of some of the geological features unique to the Badlands, although outside the Badlands National Park. I love this one because of the bales of hay in the foreground:
Notice the cow in the bottom right:
It turns out that this is the week the motorcyclists meet in Sturgis. We have seen lots of motorcycles on the roads:
