Love Perdido Key!

Key Largo was my favorite key in Florida, until I visited Perdido Key, a barrier island just off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.  Perdido Key is less crowded, has fine white sand, turquoise waters, and state and federal parks protecting the dunes.  The Perdido Bay is full of life - from our campground we saw a ray, shrimp, fish, and dolphins. Oh, and lots of bird life.

Looking across the bay towards the Gulf Islands National Seashore:, at sunset - so peaceful:

The next day we walked on the beach at the Gulf Islands National Seashore, on the eastern end of Perdido Key.  Beautiful, but pictures speak louder than words:

The water is so inviting!

We ended the day with dinner at the Shrimp Basket.  Hushpuppies, grilled whitefish (cod), shrimp slaw, and red potatoes.  Yum!

Pensacola is known for the U.S. Navy base where the Blue Angels train.  The base also hosts the Naval Aviation Museum.  We spent a day there.  Lee was looking forward to seeing this museum for over a year!  We had planned to see it last year, but went to Key West instead, because of a string of very severe storms passing through the Florida panhandle.

On to Tallahassee next, then across to Jacksonville and up the east coast.  We are now less than a week and a half from our home in Newtown Square PA.
