We are on the road again! Albeit with a feeble start, a comedy of errors of sorts.
We had planned to leave this morning (Monday) at 10. We were moving along pretty well, and I was starting up the RV steps with Munchkin in his cage. (The birds are always loaded last.) Lee then informed me the propane wasn't working. The propane is important because it keeps the refrigerator operating on the road, or anytime the RV is not plugged in to an electrical source. So Munchkin went back into the house as Lee prepared to drive to the RV repair shop. He started to pull in one of the extensions, which promptly tore off a cabinet door that had been left open!
At the repair shop (Media Camping Center), Lee was told that the valve on the propane tank was closed, and simply needed to be turned to open. It was then discovered that one of the awnings was not properly attached to the coach, so Warren and John, of the repair shop, fixed that little problem (they have come to know us very well).
We finally got on the road at about 1:30. I was apprehensive about whether or not I had set the Jeep into neutral correctly, and Lee was concerned about a new wobble in the steering wheel. But we proceeded on. The highlight of the drive was the beautiful valley that skirts the southern end of the Catskill Mountains. We finally arrived at our destination, Watkins Glen, at about 8 p.m., with exhausted birds in tow.
We watched a beautiful sunset from the state park across the road, and swung on swings! When was the last time you went swinging in a park? So much fun!
Tomorrow I see a friend who used to live in the Philadelphia area, and whom I have not seen in about 10 years. It will be great to see her again. Longtime friends are a true gift.
